Sweetheart Tables, a Timeless Tradition

For individuals unfamiliar with the expression, a “sweetheart table” is the separate table where newlyweds are seated at their wedding reception, designed to give the happy couple a more intimate space to enjoy each other’s company during the celebration. Reminiscent of a king and queen, the bride and groom dine side-by-side at the head of a joyous feast. The sweetheart table serves as a poignant reminder that the day belongs to them alone, and that every cherished family member, friend, and colleague has gathered to celebrate the couple’s special bond and bear witness to the beginning of their shared future.

“It is a beautiful moment,” says Nicol W. Segel of Nicol Floral Design, “as the couple takes that exciting first step [on the journey of their lives] together.”

Sweetheart tables are traditionally set for two and can be decorated with fresh floral bouquets, scattered rose petals, romantic candles, and other unique decor to make the table stand out at a wedding reception. Positioning a silk flower wall behind the sweetheart table is a great way to ensure that the bride and groom remain the focal point throughout the festivities.
